During the 2019 NM legislative session the Naturopathic Doctors Practice Act (SB 135) was passed into law. Beginning in July of 2020, naturopathic doctors will be granted a license by the New Mexico Medical Board to practice as a primary care physicians when they have:
- Completed an approved naturopathic medical education from an accredited four-year graduate level medical program similar to that of medical doctors, offering full-time didactic and supervised clinical training.
- Passed a national professional examination.
- Passed state jurisprudence and pharmacy exams.
- Demonstrated good moral and professional character.
